ds is 7.5 months, he has 3 meals a day and eats afir amount but not loads plus 4 bottles of 4-6 fl oz's in a day. We are also giving him a feed at 11pm which he usually takes about 5 oz's. Can we drop this now? he isn't v hungry in the morning and might only take 4 oz's of milk which is prob because he is still full up from dream feed. Can he go 12 hours without anything at 7.5 months?

Worth a try, 20oz milk plus solids should mean he's not actually hungry at that time.

yes he could go without the dream feed!
at 8mo dd was 4 9oz bottles and 4 meals a day! so perhaps try differnt ways of adding the 5oz from dream feed to one of the other milk feeds!

There is no reason why not IMO. Certainly my daughter did.
Once she was on 3 meals and 2 snacks plus milk each day I began to move the dream feed back by 15 minutes every few days until it was so close to the bedtime feed that she was only taking a couple of ounces. At that point I stopped giving the dream feed. I also used bottles with a slower teat for the dreamfeed so it was harder work for her to get the milk and she would nod off before taking the whole bottle. Finally I tried hard not to wake her up for the dream feed - I would just slip the teat in while she slept and with her not fully awake she took less milk. It was a pretty long process to wean her off the feed, but it was, I felt, a fairly gentle way of doing it as she gradually got used to having less of that feed (and so increased what she ate during the day). Sorry for the waffle, and HTH.

Hi Molly, I'm thinking the same at the moment. DS2 is 7 mo, eating three meals a the day and 3 bottles. He is also still having a dream feed at 10pm normally about 6oz. I am very scared to drop it as I like him sleeping through and I am working myself up to feeling brave enough to drop it.

DS1 btw slept from 6pm to 6am without milk in the night from 4.5mo and at the time I thought that didn't happen soon enough (I never dream fed him). What did I know !!!!

thanks for advice. think i will go for the gradual approach too and might make him take more milk during the day too.
