Hungry baby milk or not???

Hi, my son is 13 weeks old now and I’m thinking of switching to hungry baby milk as I want to approach that option first before introducing weaning as he is still young.
He was born 10lb 14oz and is currently around 20lb now so not the smallest of baby’s! He suffered really bad reflux which effected his feeding for the first 5 weeks but was put on several medications which made a change. I have noticed his hunger has started to increase massively over the last several weeks going from taking 4-6oz every 1-2 hours to anything from 8oz to draining 12oz bottles every 2-4 hours ! He is handling this amount well as he can keep it all down. However, he is still hungry after this but I don’t like to give more.

My first son was even hungrier than my second and was actually weaned at 13 weeks with the suggestion from HV. He was on hungry baby milk too, however I never really saw an improvement in his hungry while on that milk, he was just as hungry as before, hence the early weaning. My first son was born smaller too.

Is it worth trying the hungry baby milk first again or introducing baby rice etc. I would like to keep away from weaning him for another few weeks, but at the same time do not want him hungry.

TIA x

Are you doing paced bottle feeding?

Hungry baby milk just has extra casein which makes it heavier in their tummies and more difficult to digest, don't use it. Every baby is a hungry baby.

Also baby rice has no nutritional value. When you do wean just use normal porridge. 26 weeks is the normal advised weaning time but talk to your doctor given the reflux issue, 13 weeks is incredibly young to wean.

Hi thank you for your response!

Yes I often try do paced bottle feeding due to reflux, however during breaks he can get rather upset.

I spoke with his reflux paediatrician and she advised because he is taking 45-55oz in a 24 hour period at 13 weeks old to try hungry baby formula and if there is no improvements in the amount he is taking to introduce weaning like with my first. I strongly agree that it's a very young age but doc said the amount they consume in a 24 hour period is abnormal for their ages and clearly need filling a bit more.

My HV and paediatrician both agreed and advised me to wean before 26 weeks as he is a large baby and said he will definitely need it before hand, they recommended around 4-5, months which I am desperately trying to get him to 🤞🏼.

Thank you again.
