...and now it's almost 3pm.

I'm frazzled and all alone with her, don't know what is wrong. She woke up as normal for a feed around 4.30am - refused to latch on to either side.

Since then it's been a constant round of short, poorly latched feeds (she's normally great), a lot of screaming and NO sleep.

She went down at one point around midday for 10 mins and it just seemed to recharge her for more screaming.

Any ideas?

She sounds poorly, Caz - could be an ear infection, perhaps. She needs to see the doctor today, I would say, or she might be in pain tonight. Screaming is actually a sign she is not seriously ill, paradoxically, as very ill babies are quiet and lethargic, but it does sound as if she might be in some pain.

Doc can check her ears. She could just be having an 'off' day, of course, but it's best to check it out with a baby as young as this.

Have you checked her temperature? Changed her clothes in case something is itchy?

I am inclined to say she is in pain, probably wind maybe getting a cold? but it is hard to tell.

I was wondering re ears tiktok cos she doesn't seem to like being tipped sideways for feeds..

however i don't want to mislead with "screaming" it is mostly just her normal crying that is normally stopped by a feed or a sleep - just that nothing stopping it today...

Good point - get her ears checked. If you call the Surgery and say your 3 week old is ill they will fit you in today (well mine always have they don't like to take a risk).

i took my baby to the emergency doctor at 3 weeks because he kept being sick.. The doctor laughed at me and said you can't possibly expect me to do anything at three weeks old!

Wanna know what he suggested?

Have a drink! He told me to relax, have a couple of glasses of wine, breast feed and enjoy the peace that followed.

Caz10 · 02/01/2008 17:49

EEk to your doc kat! Couldn't face wine right now, that would send me over the edge!

She conked out while I was typing earlier and has slept for almost 3hrs now, just leaving her too it and going to investigate breast pump so maybe DH can help if she is like this again tonight.

Will call docs if she is bad again tonight - it's a public holiday up here today so emergency docs only anyway no surgery

thank you for your help, i'm sure i'll be back!
