Dangerous Weight Loss & Breastfeeding

My DS is 9 months old and I'm still breastfeeding but I desperately want to stop. My weight pre pregnancy was on the skinny side (BMI at the lower end of healthy, just) but now I'm seriously under weight.

What I want to know is, if breastfeeding caused you to drop too much weight quickly, did you get back to normal once stopping? How long did it take?

I'm at the end of my tether, I hate myself right now 😣 Doctor says nothing is physically wrong with me, helpfully just get told to "eat more"... I didn't have a huge appetite to begin with, was always a grazer, but I am eating more than I used to but it still isn't making a difference. For example, if we go out for dinner, I can devour 3 courses easily (before pregnancy, I couldn't have finished my main course if I had a starter!). I'm also meeting up with other mums a lot so definitely consuming more coffee and cake!

The other issue is my little one has never taken a bottle, we battled for a few months before I gave in as it was stressing me out even more. I know we really need to work on this but can anyone give me some hope?!

You have my sympathy. I have always been a bit slim and both of mine were bottle refusers.

I did manage to carry on BFinfg and keep my weight up by eating done calorific foods like cashew popcorn but if you want to stop, I'd call one of the BFing Helplies who will help you come up with a plan.

At 9 months I wouldn't bother with a bottle and go straight to a cup anyway Smile
