Breastfeeding after breast cancer surgery?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant with my first child. About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer in my left breast, I had some lymph nodes removed for testing and had a wide local excision (lumpectomy) to remove the tumour. After various other treatments, I was given the all-clear and everything has been fine since. I didn't have reconstruction.

Since I became pregnant, the unaffected breast has been getting bigger, tender etc as you'd expect, but not much is happening with the other one. Has anyone else had this after BC surgery?

I will ask my midwife about it, but just wondering whether anyone else has had difficulty breastfeeding as a result? If only one breast ends up producing milk, is this enough? I always intended to try BF but now I'm wondering whether I need to prepare to bottle-feed. Thanks in advance for your help!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Ring calling LLL helpline they will be able to advise you (probably more useful than your midwife on feeding).
