Going from breast to formula

Hi,
My baby is 5 works old and have been just breastfeeding up to now. However thinking of going to breastfeeding and formula as I can't express if I was to leave him for a couple of hours with his dad. I can't seem to build up expressed milk as my breasts don't fill up quick enough for me to feed him when time comes, so I end up giving him the expressed milk every time.
Had anyone else gone from breastfeeding to combi feeding? Are there any steps I should take like one feed have breast milk, the next be formula?

Thanks Smile

If you’re only leaving him for a couple of hours then you might find that he’s ok if you feed him immediately before you leave and immediately after you come back. Babies generally go much longer between feeds when they’re in new environments and around new people because they’re so busy looking around that they forget that they are hungry. At five weeks he might still be feeding virtually all the time but he will start spacing out feeds as he gets older.

If you are going to be away from him for more than a couple of hours then it’s worth keeping formula for in case. If you are away from him for like three or four hours once or twice a week then your supply won’t be much affected, but if you going to be away from him more than that then you may need to express while you are away.
