Hi all, after weeks of stress and tears we’re finally seeing an allergy paediatrician tomorrow with my 4 month old. His nurse already told me he will prescribe Neocate if he feels baby is allergic to milk protein. No experience with it but I understand that if they're reluctant to try it you can add vanilla essence or Nesquik to the bottle.

We have Neocate prescribed... It smells (and tastes, according to DH!) like old potatoes, but DC has adapted to it fairly well. We had a couple of days of rejecting it or only taking a little, but since then she's got back to her usual intake. We use it as a top-up in addition to BFing.

DC seems a lot happier overall - less abdominal discomfort and healthier bowel movements - so I think we made the right decision.

They usually adapt to it as long as they start it before weaning. After weaning, when they've experienced more flavours...well, that gets tricky.

My DS was 3/4 months when we finally got Neocate. I think tbh he was just so glad of being able to drink something which didn't bring him out in hives that the taste was irrelevant. He gulped it down! No issues with refusal etc...

We referred to it as potato milk 🤣
