Advice on going away from BF baby

It won't be for long - just an afternoon so I can have my hair cut and a girly lunch with a friend. I have EBM in the freezer and DH will look after DS. I was just wondering what I should do about my boobs afterwards though. I was going to feed before I left then as soon as I return - should I also express some milk as I will have missed a couple of feeds?

If you have been BF a while and don't feel uncomfortably full when you come home then I wouldn't bother. From my experience, if the feeding is pretty established then missing a feed or two won't totally mess up your supply. I am not an expert though, that's just how things were with me. Enjoy your lunch

How old is your baby? If your supply is established now, I wouldn't have thought that missing the odd feed would cause a problem, unless it's very early days.

I used to skip the odd one from about 3 months onwards with no problems

He will be 10 weeks tomorrow.

I can't wait to

a) have my hair cut
b) have a nice lunch and a glass of wine
c) leave DH with DS so he can see that my day does not consist of watching day time tv and drinking cups of tea!

you should be ok, it'll be about 5 hours max? hooray that this is your thread, am so glad it is going better.

Jojay · 29/12/2007 22:40

I'm sure it'll be fine.

Enjoy your day off!!

Lovely! It will be fine, feed before you go, enjoy yourself, if you feel too full to wait until next feed, feed a little or express when you get back, but really, probably no need. I am BF and I miss feeds q regularly and leave baby with dh and formula. my dd2 is 9 months now though, but have done this from around 3 months. i don't have much of a bf routine either so my boobs never know when a feed is due!

lewy · 29/12/2007 23:45

It will be fine. I used to escape for a few hours and although my boobs were very full when I returned DS enjoyed a big feed.

One bit of advice.. do phone DH to say you are on your way back as there is nothing worse than returning home with a chest thats ready to burst only to find hes just given hime a bottle!!

Stefka · 30/12/2007 14:45

Good tip lewy thanks! I tried to pop out for a couple of hours today but was called back home as DS was crying his head off. Stopped as soon as I arrived bless him.

Agree with lewy - def no good if dc's just been fed before you get back and you feel like your boobs are ready to explode!
