Could teething be why he's nt eating

DS2 is just coming up to 6 months. He has bottom 2 teeth and now seems to be about to get his top teeth. He is dribbling like a maniac and very fractious. He is also rejecting bottles (which he has started to have in the day) and won't take any savoury solids. Is this all connected and will it resolve itself? I am worried he is not getting enough to eat in the day. Sorry to sound thick, but my first two never really had a problem with their teeth!

It does sound very much like it! DS always goes off his food for a few days when he has teeth coming in.

Are you still BFing as well? You mention introducing bottles.

I still bf first and last feed, and during the night. I would like to stop the night feeds, but i am worried he isn't getting enough in the day.

Hi Charlie

Sounds like it could well be teeth, or could he be coming down with something? DS always refuses to eat anything other than fruit if he is feeling off-colour.

I wouldn't worry about the solids, as he is under 6mo milk will fulfil all his nutritional needs. Can you BF him more during the day if he is off bottles atm?

My 10 month old son is refusing bottles and cups at the moment, it is not fun! I am thinking and hoping it is his gums. But he is eating well. So I'm slightly confused.

Thanks for your replies. It seems that he is feeding in the night more to compensate. I am worried that we are getting into habits that will be hard to break.

Hi, are you doing BLW? I found this helps as you can give them fingers of stuff straight from the fridge.....really helps their gums when teeting.

Hi there, my DS always loses his appetite when teething and rejects any new food stuffs. I think Id just try to persevere whilst he goes through it, it doesn't usually last long.

charliemama · 24/12/2007 15:34

I'm not doing BLW but may have to start as he spits out savoury purees, but seems to like fruit. I think with DD I did a traditional/BLW hybrid as she was on finger foods really quickly.

cold ripe melon is a big fave with DS when he's teething - and cucumber too!
