Vaccinations reflux flare

DD had her 8 week vaccinations on Tuesday, and since then her reflux has been gradually getting worse again. She isn't taking her bottles properly again and can't sleep, will only sleep upright on my shoulder again. We had just managed to get it under control with Nutramigen and Carobel, so really frustrated that it's now flaring up again! I have read quite a few people saying that the vaccinations can cause a flare, especially the rotavirus one.

Has anyone else experienced this and how long did the flare last? I'm praying it only lasts a few days because I really don't want her being as miserable and in pain as much as she was weeks ago when her reflux was so bad. Poor little thing has suffered for long enough with it. Just when we had turned a corner we get sent 2 steps backwards!

The vaccinations could be a red herring. If the hydrolysed formula isn't working anymore I'd ask for an amino based one.

Hi I know this is an old post but we are experiencing the exact same issue (baby also on nutrimigen and carobel) and 2 weeks post vaccinations he has the most horrific silent reflux. How long did this last for you and did you change formula etc and see an improvement? At a loss as to what to do!

McLc88 have you tried asking for an amino acid based formula as suggested by the PP?

I’m reluctant to change formula as this is the 4th one he has had and seemed to be working really well until 2 weeks ago! Not sure if reflux/formula is related as DS is partially breastfed and reflux isn’t worse/better after different foods. I am also diary free now too.

If he's partially BF it might be worth having a read of Dairy and other food sensitivities on Kellymom.

We had about 10-14 days of hell with DDs reflux after her vaccinations but luckily afterwards it did settle again. Longest 2 weeks of my life haha! I did some research and found some information saying the rotavirus vaccine can cause a reflux flare so we chose not to give the second dose as my DD isn't in any childcare or play groups. Hope your little one feels better soon x

We’re on day 15 now and has been worse the last 3/4 days I would say! Hoping like mad it calms down again by next week. We had awful stomach cramps to the point we had to attend out of hours doctors etc and still having liquid green poo so I was leaning the same way as you in not having the second dose also! Similar situation as not exposed to other children at all so weighing up the pros and cons! It’s reassuring to hear others have had similar reactions and have come out the other side.

@McLc88 aww you poor things, I feel your pain. Hang on in there, fingers crossed little one is better in the next few days. We did the same with the weighing up pros and cons and went with the option of not giving second dose. Do what's best for you and your family 🙂x
