How to wind down breastfeeding from 12 months

I can’t find much information other than to drop a feed at a time, but I don’t really feed at set times so I don’t really know how to do that.

My girl is 11 months and is starting nursery in a few weeks so I don’t know if I should be starting to phase out daytime feeds before then so it’s not such a shock to the system?

She’s night weaned already and has a bottle before bed, but all other feeds are breastfeeds. Do I offer solids / water / cow’s milk (after 12 months) instead?

I’ve always been quite crap at reading her cues tbh so while I’ve tried to feed on demand, it tends to be just me offering every few hours. I’m a little afraid to stop offering in case it leads to her waking up at night again, we’re finally getting some sleep after 10 months of hell.

Any tips gratefully received!

Watching with interest as I have nearly the same question! I got some good advice on this thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/4427405-Help-me-plan-my-exit-from-breastfeeding?msgid=113347761

The consensus was to mostly replace daytime feeds with snacks (e.g. yogurt). I’ve been occasionally trying this for a couple of weeks but it’s not been totally successful. DD copes without her morning feed, but is grumpy! Still, it gives me more confidence that she’ll be ok at nursery without breast milk in the day and will hopefully just eat/drink more when I’m not available.

Ah thanks I’ll check out that thread! I’m happy to keep a morning feed first thing for a while but it’s the rest I’d like to start with first. Hope you’re feeling ok about nursery, it’s emotional isn’t it!

So true - I’m preparing practically for starting DD at nursery but slightly in denial emotionally Sad

Good luck!
