Is gas waking baby up?

Hi everyone, just looking at some advice from the experts! DS is just over 5 weeks old. He normally goes down after a bath and feed around 9:30, and will sleep initially for 4 hours or so, but the last 2 of those hours can be quite restless with him crying in his sleep and squirming. We have a mobile with a button we keep hitting like a snooze button to get him through the last few hours!

He normally goes back down for 3 hours until around 4-4:30, and then after it's very much on and off every hour with him not really settling. It seems he has trapped gas as when I do bicycle legs he lets out some good farts. Even with doing this though he doesn't seem to settle later on in the night. We also get some good burps out of him - it definitely seems more like it's gas from digestion.

Also I should say he's normally bf apart from the midnight feed I do by bottle to give the Mrs a break.

Does it sounds like it's gas waking him up, and anyone else has similar experiences? Cheers!

This sounds very normal for a newborn to me. It’s their immature gut ‘waking up’

Seems typical at that age, though I wouldn’t be hitting the mobile to keep him asleep, that must be incredibly annoying for you.
With the first baby, we definitely took too much of a problem solving approach to her sleep. With the second you realise that you have to accept that it’s out of your control. Find ways of maximising the sleep you both have that don’t depend on what the baby does — e.g. taking it in turns to sleep on the sofa, going to bed early.
