Switching from Neocate to Alfamino?

Anyone had any experiences switching from Neocate to alfamino?

My LO has been on Neocate for 12 weeks now and a lot has improved. He was still unsettled so started Omeprazole which helped. The past 6 weeks have been great and he’s been really happy and settled.

The past 2 weeks Things declined so currently upped the Omeprazole again and waiting for that to kick in to see.

I have A feeling though that maybe Neocate isn’t suiting him. He has been constipated since being on it and now suffers with large patches of eczema on his forearm whereas he never had this before.

The past 2 weeks have gone really backward and it’s like being back in the newborn stage again where you can’t put him down and he’s struggling with this sleep at night again only sleeping on me and only cat napping in the day. He’s waking up screaming and then being sick.

Is it worth trialling alfamino? I am worried about upsetting again but I’m starting to feel really anxious around him due to everything going on. Everyone says how content and happy he is which is fine but once you put him down he just wants to be held, he’s not having having tummy time and isn’t using his mat as he’s constantly either sat up or being carried around.

I’m not sure what to do anymore after doing everything possible. 5 cranial sessions, 2x tongue tie divisions that has reattached again. I’m just fed up.

Have you been referred to the Allergy Clinic @Darklava09? It sounds as though he's reacting to something else.

Darklava09 · 27/12/2021 18:43

@PanicBuyingSprouts he’s under a dietician but he’s only 16 weeks so not eating any solids yet.

Sorry I meant reacting to something else in the milk, now that dairy has been eliminated. I'd ask the GP fir a referral to the Allergy Clinic. Hopefully it will come through before weaning starts.

If it doesn't, I'd do weaning the old fashioned way and only offer one fruit or vegetable a day and in the morning so that you've got plenty of time to speak to the Doctor, if necessary.

@PanicBuyingSprouts yes I think he may possibly be reacting to the coconut in the Neocate as it’s like we’ve got a newborn again. It’s such a shame.

We have an appointment on the 5th regarding weaning so will discuss it then. Round here you can only get an appointment to the allergy clinic if they have IGE allergies or reacting to more than 1 allergen.

Hey what did you do in the end...? What a coincidence this is- I searched this question because I am currently switching my 18 week old onto alfamino, and I see that you posted this on the day she was born!!! Spooky....
Anyway, did the alfamino help?

Hi

I'm going through the same just now. Any advice?

Hi, did you switch and did it help the situation? We’ve gone onto neocate after trialling pepti but now have blood in poo again?! We had blood prior to pepti (on normal formula) but didn’t have any with Pepti, now in neocate and have blood which seems odd as it contains now cows milk unlike Pepti which still contained it?! At my wits end, feel like I’ve tried everything and nothing is working. I do wonder if omeprazole gives bad side effects and could cause this!

We’re also under a private dietitian who is switching us from neocate syneo to alframino. She’s had blood in poo since being on neocate but I don’t know if this is the after math of pepti 1. Alframino is the last resort before she is referring us to a paediatrician. I’ve seen about 4/5 different doctors, one being private, who told me she didn’t have a milk allergy and now she’s ended up with blood in her poo and only drinks between 1-2 oz each time
