Lactulose help

DD has been prescribed Lactulose today for severe constipation, which I think has been caused by her omeprazole. The GP could feel that she is also full of wind.

She screams day and night and won't take her bottles anymore. After some tummy massage yesterday she did pass a very large, hard poo and then finished her bottle fine and slept well afterwards. As soon as she started her next bottle, the same thing happened again and has continued since.

I have tried more tummy massages and warm baths but nothing seems to be helping her. She will only stop screaming lay on her back where she must he more comfortable, but then she just brings up what little milk I have got in to her because of her reflux.

How do I administer the lactulose? Do I do it before, during or after a bottle? I'm so worried it's going to make her worse as I've read the side effects can cause bloating, gas and stomach pains Sad

How old is she? What formula is she on?

My DD suffered horrible reflux and constipation. Lactulose made her worse sadly, gave her bellyache and we moved onto movicol when she was 10 months old. I used to give her the lactulose before her bottle, was no hope in hell she’d take it afterwards.

She is 7 weeks old and on Hipp Organic formula. We are about to start carobel instead of the Omeprazole but we don't want to start it until she is pooping normally again as I'm aware carobel can cause constipation as a side effect also

Hi OP. I'm not a doctor but I was in a similar situation. I found being religious with probiotics was the only thing that ensured nice soft, pain free poo for my LO. Try getting probiotics with Inulin in them. I saw the difference right away.
