10 month old going off milk…

Hi all,

My DD is 10.5 months, she was premature and is only on the 4th centile (very petite!) but so far is gaining weight perfectly along that curve! She currently has 3 meals a day and a snack mid morning - she is doing great on her solids and is a really good eater! However, the past couple of weeks she has really gone off her milk, it’s a struggle to get 10oz in her a day! She just doesn’t seem interested in more than a couple of oz at each feed. For example last night she took 3oz of her bedtime bottle, she did 3oz of her morning bottle this morning and has only done 2oz of her afternoon bottle today. I just wanted reassurance if this is okay?! I do add the rest of her morning bottle to her porridge and she loves yoghurts, cheese etc and drinks water throughout the day. Is it usual for babies to do this at this age? I don’t know how else I can get more milk into her as she just refuses the bottle once she’s had a couple of oz. I just worry about her weight and hydration, which I know has been fine so far, but as a first time mum and to my detriment an over thinker, I just can’t help but stress about it when she is doing this. Thank you for your help! Smile

By the time they get to 1 year they only need about 300/350mls (10-12oz) and that includes milk in cereal and dairy products. Are you giving vitamins? It's advised to give vitamins A, C and D if taking less than 500mls per day

Do you make her porridge with formula or just add the extra in? If you don't then start using formula to make it. You could cut it to 2 larger bottles instead of smaller amounts in 3 bottles.
I wouldn't worry though

She only needs 13.5 floz a day so isn't far from that.

Agree that making her porridge with formula and switching to 2 bottles a day should help as well Smile

Thank you so much for the replies!

Yes I make her porridge with formula so at least she’s getting more in that way. I’m going to do just two bottles today (morning and bedtime) and cut out the mid afternoon bottle to see if that makes a difference and helps with her intake. Smile

She’s not currently on a vitamin supplement as this is a recent change and she’s eating such a good range of solids - do you think I still need to pop her on one? Thanks

It's advised to supplement vitamin A, C and D until age 5. They don't need them if taking 500mls of formula as that's fortified already

Totally ageee with demented. Here's the NHS info on Vitamins for babies and toddlers.

How did you get on today op? Another thing that I thought off, you might need to up the teat to a faster flow?

CMF1318 · 19/12/2021 21:52

She’s done okay thanks @shouldistop, I took your suggestion and have dropped the afternoon bottle and made up two larger bottles as opposed to the 3 7oz bottles I was offering DD. She’s still only done 10oz in total from those bottles (4oz am and 6oz bedtime). I still made her porridge with formula and at mid afternoon offered her a fromage frais (the petit Filous range) as a snack which she loved! Going to see how she goes over the next few days, she seems happy just being on two bottles and taking a larger volume at each instead of smaller amounts over three bottles (albeit she’s still only doing the same amount) - I’m just hoping she’ll start to increase her milk intake again? Or maybe shes getting to an age where she just doesn’t want as much? Really not sure, Ooo I hadn’t thought of a faster teat! Thank you! Smile She’s currently on tommee tippee size 3 fast flow teat - do you think I should try the vari flow instead? Thank you for your help Smile
