Newborn falling asleep after only one breast

I have a 5 day old daughter..I breastfed my first but she was always hungry and fed from both sides so this didn’t apply! My daughter tends to feed from one side around 15-20 mins and then fall into a really deep sleep. I’ve tried changing her nappy etc to wake her and offer the other side but she either won’t latch or just sucks for a few seconds and falls back to sleep. Is this ok? She’s gaining well (lost 2% birth weight today as opposed to 4.5% on day 3). Should I just alternate a breast per feed or will only feeding one at a time like this affect my supply?

As long as she’s gaining weight (or not losing too much at this stage), that’s fine, just offer the other breast next time and ensure you’re feeding on demand

It's fine! Mine only ever wanted one breast. You can continue to offer if you like, but personally I would be disinclined to wake her up to do it 😆

She should be fine and yes, just alternate boobs. I did this with my second and it never caused any supply issues. Congrats on your baby!

As her gain is good you are ok. Just keep an eye on Poo output until she is back to birth weight.

Great, thanks! Poo output definitely seems ok, I think we had 5 just through the night last night! ...I guess I’m not yet at the cluster feeding age so should enjoy the calm sleepy feeds while they last 😁

Just try to remember which side you did last time and feed from the other first. Eventually she'll be less sleepy and her tummy will get bigger and she'll get hungrier. My son used to do the same. It usually wasn't hard to remember which boob I'd fed from as it was half the size of the other! But I think someone recommend putting a hairband on the wrist of the size you last fed on to try to remember.
