ds refusing breast

I had been feeding ds around the clock- sometimes over an hour and a half, and because he can't get the milk properly- 15 minutes later he is desperately hungry again stuffing his hands down his mouth and not settling at all. The latch is correct everyone has checked! He does have tongue tie.

On the advice of my midwife i have been topping up with formula since Friday-BIG MISTAKE- because last night when offering him the breast he was really fussy and refusing, and then when he did get on he destroyed my nipples (AGAIN)! I felt guilty about giving in to the bottle for top ups, but i really felt i had to, he still has jaundice at day 18 and the docs suggest that a proper feed is the only way ds can 'flush out' the system...I'm hoping sorting the tongue tie will help us to get back to purely breast feeding.....

any suggestions on how to get him interested in breast again? and how to increase the milk supply (apart from constantly feeding him- because i also have 3 dd's 4 and 2 yr old twins)

ps..any suggestions for very sore nipples? (the lanolin isn't working- have used it for 2 weeks!- probably due to the fact that it doesn't really stay on long enough and when he does he thinks i'm the bottle!)

He will still be interested in the breast, he is probably just annoyed that the flow may not be as quick as a bottle, and he may have nipple confusion. The only way to get over it is to continue breastfeeding. So get you doc's to get their arses in gear and sort out the poor mites tongue tie.

Have you tried expressing to increase your supply? There are homeopathic remedies as well, but I don't know what they are - sorry.

Lansinoh cream is great. Slap it on after every feed, and don't let your nips dry out. This will make them crack even more.

I hope you can get over this xx
