My son is 3.5 weeks old. He is bottle fed and we started him on cow&gate, mainly because its the cheapest. Seemed ok to begin with but then we noticed that every time you fed him he would spit up a lot, and you had to hold him upright for a long time after feeds to stop him spewing the lot.
At first he didn't seem in pain with it but he soon started making faces like he'd tasted something unpleasant and we realised he was swallowing a lot of the milk he was spitting up, he would then refuse any more milk once he'd done this and even the dummy. He stopped finishing his feeds because of this so we decided to try an anti reflux milk after seeking advice from GP, our other son had silent reflux so it looked like our new baby was going to be the same.
So we tried SMA anti reflux. First few days were good, hardly any sick but it did make him constipated almost instantly. After a few days he started spitting up lots again and same old problems came back, plus this milk is so thick it was hard to get burps out of him so wind pain was another problem.
We decided this formula was not benefitting him so spoke to HV this time who suggested we try carobel in regular formula. Tried 2 scoops of carobel in 4oz of cow&gate regular formula and he's been a nightmare ever since, really runny yellow poos every 2h or so and he seems grumpy and unsettled. I also think he must not like the taste because he is fussing over every mouthful.
I spoke to GP yesterday and she has given us a prescription for gaviscon but I am reluctant to give it to him because I know it causes constipation. I know you can't mix it with carobel either.
Now I'm not sure where to turn. Whether to go back to just plain cow&gate regular and see where we're at or whether to try a new formula in the hope he gets on better with that. I have heard good things about kendamil so was considering this but seeing as we have tried 3 formula mixes already I don't want to mess his little digestion system around unnecessarily.
Any advice or ideas v. much welcome!
