Can I just keep feeding twice a day?

My ds is almost 8 months and still feeds 4 times a day and a couple of times in the night. Over the last couple of weeks I've dropped the 10pm feed, then the afternoon feed and am now dropping the mid morning feed (replacing with formula) so am feeding him first thing in the morning and at bedtime (and through the night when he wants it). Should I be able to keep this up for a while? I do feel slightly sad about pulling back on breastfeeding but I feel like it's the right time for us. However I'm scared my supply will dry up and I'll be forced to give up completely which I don't think either of us are ready for!! The morning doesn't seem a problem, but the last few nights he takes very little at his 7pm feed (and his 10pm feed is then a bottle) so I worry I will unintentionally lose that feed too, which we both really enjoy as a way to say goodnight. Then last night at 2am I woke up to find dh giving him a bottle! Which we've never done! I was so upset and felt really scared that overnight my milk will stop after a 'nothing' feed at 7pm and then nothing through the night either. advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated..

I too would say drop the formula altogether and feed when you are at home.

With solids give juice/water to drink instead of formula.

I worked part-time and fed baby when at home, but didn't when at work - baby got juice (no holes in teeth BTW ).

Baby will get enough milk with those feeds. Night waking is not a hunger issue IMO, so extra milk/food during the day will not solve it I am afraid.

well in an update - she only gave him lunch at 3pm (I'm an hour ahead of you guys!)!! sob. so I guess I'll have to try and fit dinner in between my arriving home feed and his bedtime feed. Looks like there's going to be little time for anything except eating tonight!

I am sure I'd told her you shouldn't keep formula before but obviously like the rest of it just nodded and decided to do whatever. don't get me wrong, i adore my mum and she helps me immensely but today she's really annoyed me.

Will be trying the new routine from tomorrow then and see how we get on..

Maveta, just give him a snacky tea (my kids live on these!), pieces of cheese, olives, potato cake etc. and let him pick at it. Don't make dinner an issue and then let him bfeed lots at bedtime.

You do know that kids don' care about 3 meals a day don't you??

yeah, I'm just having a stress today. Can you tell?!

Does the fact that on saturday I got my first period in 17 months explain anything ? lol

(she says bursting into hormonal tears)

Yes Maveta we can tell... Get out that bar of chocolate and glass of wine and lie on sofa...

And your mum sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO like mine. That faraway 'mm hmm' when you know she's not remotely listening cos obv she knows better having been and done it an all...

But bless em they look after our kids for us and we're not dead!

lol, thanks to all of you for your kind and wise words today. On arriving home and finding the universe had not actually imploded everything seemed a lot more manageable.

Why did no one tell me that when I had a baby I would suddenly develop an inability to see things in perspective?
Does my perspective come back or has it gone forever?
Is my mother trying to kill me with her disregard for my Very Important Rules?

Burning questions..

I remember that stage oh so well. You will get through it all mentally intact
