Hi,

I have been involved in make a short video about breastfeeding featuring breastfeeding expert Vicki Scott (from Philips Avent)

She gives out breastfeeding tips and also reacts to new research.

It would be great if you could have a look at it and let me know what you think.

You can do that by clicking on this link uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ryBezqpCaaA or by pasting this onto your website : uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ryBezqpCaaA
Hope you like it !
Ben

Just having a look at the other videos on YouTube the same guy's posted:

Classy, eh?

BE, I tried to post those numbers as a comment and it hasn't let me - weird?

VVVExcitedAboutChristmasQV · 16/12/2007 19:59

It wasnt designed to cover the basics of breastfeeding. Covering the basics of breastfeeding takes a whole lot more time than 4mins 48secs. However, you can squeeze quite a few adverts for products in such a short period of time.

That is what that was. An advert.

charliegal · 16/12/2007 20:02

Bloody hell, tis terrible, what weird random questions. Did he really ask does let down hurt? And to use that antiquated and rigthly maligned phrase 'Breast is best'- yeah, the one that gets all us militants in trouble.

VVVExcitedAboutChristmasQV · 16/12/2007 20:07

Its the "yes there is lots of support around if mums look for it, OR a DVD . It just so happens that Phillips Avent produce a DVD......"

fishie · 16/12/2007 20:12

what a load of shit. rambling on about nothing (weird tasting milk?!) it wasn't even a good ad for bottles.

where is vicki? advent must have put robertarthur up to posting this. not a career high point for their first infant feeding adviser.

cazee · 16/12/2007 20:13

Do you all think robertarthur is genuine? All seems a little bit odd to me...

VVVExcitedAboutChristmasQV · 16/12/2007 20:15

Dont get me started on the "weird tasting milk"

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 20:20

Hunker, I tried to post a comment too and it just stayed thre for ages then when it was apparently 'done' thre was no comment
Normally they say that commenting has been disabled if you're not allowed to comment.

NineBabiesDancing · 16/12/2007 20:33

Hunker, It is odd your and my comments failed to turn up on u-tube Maybe all our comments might turn up at some point.

NineBabiesDancing · 16/12/2007 20:38

"weird tasting milk"
FFS, flavour is not the same as weird tasting.

But I suppose that breastfeeding has to be made out to be difficult chore, so we can all wean our babies early onto wallpaper paste bland baby rice and follow up with months of mush.

Do Philip Avent sell rice cookers and food mashers and containers to freeze and reheat mush food by any chance ? (Genuine question, I did BLW)

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 20:54

Nine babies, I hit post comment about ten times after iot didnt work the first time so I'd laugh if it turn up eventually!

NineBabiesDancing · 16/12/2007 20:57

TinyTim, Hope it was a good comment, worth repeating

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 20:59

Oh, yes, it even mentioned mumsnet

VVVExcitedAboutChristmasQV · 16/12/2007 21:57

Funnily enough, ninebabies........

AwayInAMunker · 17/12/2007 09:43

Oh, dear!

"This video has been removed by the user."

Hmm, I wonder why...

Vicki? Robert?

tiktok · 17/12/2007 09:56

Damn - I wish I had seen it. So Vicki was the interviewee, and Robert Arthur was the interviewer, is that right?

I am afraid I am liking Vicki rather less than I did. I thought she was a nice person, but now I think she is remaining willfully ignorant of her own limited knowledge of breastfeeding

AwayInAMunker · 17/12/2007 09:58

I wish you'd seen it too, Tiktok. I'm glad I did a fairly thorough precis of it, but wish I'd transcribed it now...

Yes, Vicki the interviewee, being interviewed by a chap asking things about whether letdown is painful.

Really an Avent advert, nothing else. I'm glad it's gone because it was utterly unhelpful. I hope Avent are taking all this on board and either employ somebody who actually knows something about breastfeeding or start being a bit more honest about their motives.

it was awful TT. now i feel very smug about asking for her credentials. (but i also feel regretful at feeling smug.) the more we have seen of her the less we are liking her.
kinda like on here. the more we see of some posters, the more we know how to interpret their posts.

VVVExcitedAboutChristmasQV · 17/12/2007 10:57

dammit. I wonder if there was a way of retrieving cached stuff, having viewed it........?????

MerryPIFFLEmas · 17/12/2007 11:01

My criticism of her is that she could do something so important and could use her position to do so much GOOD.

I buy and use Avent products FFS the breast pump is excellent, the bottles are as good as any other when you have to use one (in my case with ds2 I only use the lids excellent first cups)

Spreading the bf word and improving and mobilising support networks/helplines and sinking money/profits into this is only GOOD for their brand.
Could do better!!!

NineBabiesDancing · 17/12/2007 11:10

But if all mothers are fully supported in breastfeeding, this doesn't leave room for profits leading from selling mothers to be plastic tat.

A fully breastfeeding mother, who does not have to be parted from her baby...does not need any products and that is zero profit for the Philip Avent company.

I originally thought that buying a hand pump and having a spare bottle was necessary part of breastfeeding but now I have heard about hand expressing and cup feeding, not even those items are needed (not that I have got the hang of hand expressing yet)

NineBabiesDancing · 17/12/2007 11:11

( sorry I pressed post instead of preview)

even if you are seperated from your baby

NineBabiesDancing · 17/12/2007 11:19

I wonder if Vicky has a copy of that u-tube interview ?

Interestingly the same Vicky clip was posted on this other baby board and then deleted, here is the cached page

Baby Expert page

I hate the way people can delete stuff on the web, especially when they don't like the response they are getting. I wonder if robertarthur asked for this thread on mumsnet to be deleted as well

MerryPIFFLEmas · 17/12/2007 11:28

But surely Avent do well enough by mothers who NEED the products
I prefer to hand express now. Have never needed a bottle for ds2...
but some people must...
