FairyTaleOfNewYork · 15/12/2007 19:45

err yes

PortAndLemonaid · 15/12/2007 19:53

You can eat anything you like (provided it's not actually toxic, I suppose) and breastfeed.

hercules1 · 15/12/2007 19:54

Yes, of course!

ruddynorah · 15/12/2007 19:55

fishie · 15/12/2007 20:00

Shell, who on earth has been telling you to avoid seafood ??? What other rubbish have they been sharing with you?

ElfPolarBear · 15/12/2007 22:20

best to avoid nuts though if a history of allergies / asthma
That's right, isn't it? Or I am walking the 3 mile round trip in the cold and dark to get some salted KPs

Shell001 · 16/12/2007 16:51

I thought prawns were raw shellfish ? Food Standards agency said to avoid such foods whilst pregnant so thought much the same whilst bf ?

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 16:56

Shell, you don't need to worry aboutt he same stuff when bfing. The reason most things you are told not to eat when you are pregnant are better avoided is because they are types of food that carry diseases, i.e. salmonella in raw eggs, etc so it can make you, and in turn baby, very ill. Or pate which I think is down to vitamin A??
It is not the same with breastfeeding, if you got ill, you wouldn't necessarily pass it on to baby.
You can go back to living your life normally now! eat, drink and be merry! Just not too much drink

Shell001 · 16/12/2007 17:13

Thanks i will do .. i ll try to relax abit!

Seona1973 · 16/12/2007 20:46

prawns are only raw shellfish if you dont cook them - if you cook them then they are not raw and safe to eat (that applies in pregnancy too and you can eat cooked shellfish as part of a meal so no need to avoid it)

GingerBearingGifts · 16/12/2007 20:48

Yes, but don't drop Marie Rose sauce on the baby's head - it is a bugger to wash off.

Shell001 · 16/12/2007 21:10

So prawns in a prawn cocktail is already cooked ?

If they are pink, they are cooked. A raw prawn is a grey colour.
