Feeding to sleep and gassy baby

My 1week old can only fall asleep on the boob (completely normal in these early days I know), but my issue is he's quite gassy and uncomfortable after breastfeeding so I need to burp him, which wakes him up. Then he wants to suck again to get himself back to sleep and makes himself all uncomfortable again - especially because I get the feeling he doesn't really need all the milk, so he often is a bit sick afterwards. It's a bit frustrating for both of us! Does anyone have any tips? Not sure whether to offer a dummy after burping him? I know you're not supposed to until 4/6 weeks though.

Any tips much appreciated!

Or, should I start practising getting him to sleep without feeding..? I feel like he's a bit little for that though. We've managed it a couple of times with rocking, bum patting etc but it took quite a long time.

Have you tried the Tiger in the Tree hold? He might nod off again if you burp him that way.

But yes, it's good to introduce other sleep associations but at 1 week I'd be feeding to sleep as well Smile

Congratulations on your new LO Thanks

@SleafordSods thank you! That's a good idea thanks, I've not tried it.
