CMPA - starting formula - any advice?

DS (5mo) was diagnosed a couple of months ago with a mild form of milk protein intolerance. He was never fussy, in pain, or struggling with reflux, but he did have tiny pinpricks of blood in his poo nearly every day. When I cut out dairy, the bloody stools stopped being a problem.

I start work next month and I’m not confident I’ll be able to pump enough to keep DS going on exclusively breast milk. I would like to introduce a bit of formula, and the doctor suggested a few specialized formulas to try.

What the doctor wasn’t able to settle for me, however, was how to tell if DS is tolerating the formula well, given that he now eats solid food and his poos are thicker and with varying colours. I don’t think I’ll be able to see pinpricks of blood in them.

Does anyone have experience of this? Any tips on what to watch for?

No idea on that one sorry given that he didn't have any other symptoms.

Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows.

If it doesn't have cows milk protein in it there should be no problem. My dd was comb fed and had nutramigen until she was 1 then oat milk until she was 3. The almond milk didn't really agree with her (can't remember why, maybe runny poo) so we could tell that way. Nutramigen and all the cmpa formulas tast vile though. Some people add a tiny bit of vanilla essence (the alcohol free type) or nesquick if they refuse it, then wean off the addition.good luck
