BREASTFEEDING AND ALERGIES

I am breastfeeding again, and my little one seems to be struggling with his tummy. He is squirming alot and in pain with it. Also struggles and strains when pooing yet his poos are rather runny. I am beginning to wonder if he may be allergic to dairy. He also gets little red spots on his face. What are the symptoms to look out for if he is allergic to me drinking milk?

how old is your baby?

allergy to cow's milk throught bm is a v. rare condition afaik, and I don't think there is reliable evidence that it exists eventhough there is anecdotal evidence. but maybe later i will be stood by corrected.

could the red spots be the dry skin precursor to eczema?

damn, i am on a mn holiday except for 1 thread.

he is 5 weeks old, they seem to appear and then disappear!

bf poos are rather runny. by 5 wks he will be pooing more infrequently and it is normal to hear that they squirm alot and maybe feel pain. Have you tried giving him a bath in a tummy tub? When dd was tiny i would put her in the water filled to the deep setting and she would wiggle about and more than once, lo and behold, a huge explosive poo. It's amazing how quickly you can take them out of the bath.

doesn't explain the spots though.
