Medela Swing Pump

I've had this pump for about 3 weeks now and at least once a week I get the milk going into the tube so I have to go to the hassle of cleaning it all out and letting it dry before I can use it again. Does anyone else have this problem with this model? Are there any hints/tips as to how to stop it happening in the first place?

I used this & never really had this problem

Are you tipping it up as you express? Try keeping it more upright

Are you filling bottles? - could be overflow..

If not maybe try calling Medela could be a fault I suppose??

i have had this problem - on my 'fast boob'- it doesnt seem to cope with the sudden rush of milk i get following let down.

i too had to take swing appart etc and really do not want a repeat since planning to express at work.

so far i have

1. kept collecting bottle upright - hence suction tube is vertical.

2.made sure the suction tube is higher than the collectig bottle- ie i put my pump higher than the bottle so the tube goes down to the bottle.( poor explanation sorry)

1. on my 'fast boob' get ready for the sudden milk in and sometimes remove the suction tube asap when it comes to prevent back wash.

so far the worse that has happened is that the tube has got some milk in and so needed washing out ( managed to unplug before it got to the pump itself)- i then washed and blew threw the tubing to clear water and attached it to the pump for super air drying.

interested in any other tricks out there

no, its not an overfill. I express straight into Laniloh milk storage bags and the pump is on the table in front of me. I tip the horn bit in forward to aid the flow out of the white valve but it makes no difference.

Its a pain isn't it. My husband said the same thing last night about keeping the pump higher. I did that this morning with no problems but I guess time will tell.

I pumped a while ago with the pump at my head height balanced on a cupboard and the bloody thing still backflowed. Does anyone know if the white valve thing is essential to the pumping. Surely if it wasn't there the problem wouldn't occur or am I missing something really obviously?
