Baby is 3 months old sore throat not eating

Hi there,

My baby is 3 months old and we have taken her to the doctors today for the second time, she has a little croaky breathing which is continuous and not hardly eating… she usually has 6oz every 3 hours but now literally only 5oz for the whole day today. The doctor gave us 3 days worth a of steroids and said she will go off her food but I’m still so worried… when will her apetite come back?? Has anyone had this before??

Sorry also to add the doctor said it was her throat that was red and didn’t have a temperature she is sleeping a lot at the moment - he listened to her chest and said her chest was clear.

Is she having any other fluids (?presumably not at 3 months). Keep an eye on her hydration as that's what I'd be concerned about if she's not drinking her milk. Make sure she's having plenty of wet nappies and that her fontanelle doesn't look sunken. Any concerns and get back to doctor tonight (111).

It's very worrying op when they first become ill.
Did the GP say just to give Calpol etc for her throat?
I know when my DS is bad with a sore throat he won't touch a thing.
If she's sleeping a lot that'll do her good to fight it off.
Did he not mention about how much milk she's having?

Thank you… she just done 4oz I did tell the doctor she isn’t drinking much at all! But he didn’t seem too concerned he said when your ill you don’t eat as much and the kidneys store water…I also mentioned her Fontanelle as I thought it had gone in a little but he felt it and said it’s fine … it’s so hard to know what’s right and what’s not I’m going by what the doctor has explained and examine so I hope he is right… I keep offering her milk and water but I think her throat is so sore and she screams that she makes it worst

I took her Tuesday and he said have to ride it out but then I thought she got worst so I took her back and he examined her and her throat again and said it looked like it had gone down a little but gave me a 3 day prescription of steroids … he said I could give her calpol which I have just done after she had 4oz it’s so worrying and I keep taking her temp which is now saying 37.8 I have her in a baby grow and 2.5 sleep bag but debating taking her out of it

Sorry also how long did it take your little one to get there apetite back

4 days.
Hopefully the steroids kick in for her soon.
Is she still waking in the night still whilst she's poorly?
If not, I don't like waking sleeping babies but I would be waking her and trying a bottle to get some extra into her.

She did last night but didn’t eat anything I kept trying this is the least amount she has eaten today… I’m really hoping she has some in the night she usually wakes up around 2/3am the doctor said where her throat so sore it irritates it I am so glad she done 4oz at 7.45pm before she went to bed it’s so worrying
