Painful latch at 15 months

Can anyone help me work out what’s going wrong please?

DD is 15 months and bfing has gone pretty well so far apart from a few issues with latch and a bad case of thrush in the first month.

Over the last two weeks however feeding has suddenly got really sore on both breasts and I’m not sure why?

Latching on is excruciating but settles down to a point where it is uncomfortable but doable. It feels like she is pulling my nipple with her teeth but I don’t have bite marks or abrasions. My breasts also feel sore between feeds.

I reckon it could be one of three things:

  1. Thrush (again) although I don’t have the same symptoms as before ( my nipples were itchy and red when I had it last year and they are not now.) Also I gave up refined carbs a month and a half ago so I would have thought the Candida that cause it would have starved? Also baby not showing any signs of oral pain as she did previously.

  2. my periods are starting up again? I’ve not had a period for 2 years now and I’ve read up that you can get sore nipples when combining breastfeeding and menses. This has been over two weeks now through and no period has arrived by or other pmt signs which I would usually get.

3). Teething - DD’s molars are coming in. I’ve red this can cause acidic saliva but I had a pretty smooth ride nipple wise when the first front teeth came through. This time age is getting quite a lot of pain though and will often wake up crying.
