Breastfeeding while have covid

I have covid. My dd (4 months) had it a few days but seems to have recovered. I am in the thick of it - temp of 39.5 doesn't come down even after paracetamol and ibuprofen. I'm breastfeeding but my dd seems unsatisfied. I've not had any problems before. Could the temp or covid be reducing my supply.

Being ill could reduce your supply but your body is amazing. It will adapt and your milk will provide wonderful antibodies for your baby. Your baby might just be having a growth spurt though.
Drink LOTS and rest.

Thanks, I am trying not to panic. Really want dd to be okay and really don't want this to impact our bf journey.

If you are on Facebook I would really recommend joining 'Breastfeeding Together Connect and Share'. They are amazing and really responsive.

Babies always feel like more work when you're ill and bf while poorly can really suck.

Your dd may still be feeling under the weather too. It's extremely unlikely that your supply would be affected at 4m - the exception being if you really were at deaths door.

Try to be kind to yourself. Stay hydrated and try to keep eating. If eating is difficult drink fruit juice/similar so you're still getting something to keep you going.

Hope you're feeling better soon

Ps you will have been giving her antibodies to covid before you even had symptoms so you have already done the best thing to protect her xx

Howarewenotthereyet · 08/10/2021 20:20

Thanks @littlegiant I've sent them a request

Just giving you my personal experience. Sadly I stopped being able to feed when I had Covid. DD also had it and was terribly unwell. I was severely unwell for about a month and lost my supply. I miss it terribly but we have got on with life. I hope you feel better soon. x

Thanks - I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself you may be able to tell. I am doubled jabbed only 2 months ago and it's floored me how poorly I feel

Oh no @amter. I am sorry. Is there anything I can do to prevent that happening do you think?

I breastfed through Covid if it’s any help, he did feed an awful lot but I think he felt grotty and also anytime I’m ill he tends to know and need me ALL the time….

Howarewenotthereyet · 08/10/2021 20:23

@amter sorry if my question is insensitive

If at all possible do nothing but rest and feed. Not quite the same (we combi fed from the start), but I had D&V when DS2 was three weeks old. I spent a day in bed with him in his cot next to me and just slept, only waking up for feeds. Good luck!

amter · 08/10/2021 21:34

Honestly I am not sure anything would have changed my experience, I had a high temp for about 14 days, and couldn't keep anything down for a few days which I think was the key reason I lost my supply.

It was just my experience and I hope you have a better one. x

I BF through having covid. We are all different. Please just monitor babies wet and dirty nappies and also their suck & swallow is effective whilst feeding xx
