Sweaty Baby

Hi all!

FTM here! My LO is 4 weeks old and we are BFing. However I notice that she gets super sweaty when BFing. Her forehead gets clammy as does her back of neck and sometimes under her arms. She's only in a vest and baby grow- no blankets.

Is this normal? I've read that it can mean heart defects so now freaking out!! Have my 6-8 wk check up next week so will mention to GP but wondered if anyone had any experiences of it?

Xx

I did with one of mine-it was like holding a wet seal
The one thing that helped was a friend who told me to fill a muslin with porridge oats and run the bath water through it-don’t rinse off but do pat baby dry
Sounds bonkers but it really helped
My dad sweats badly too and he swears by it

My DS always got super sweaty when he was breastfeeding, he still gets sweaty now that he's older when he is tired or as he falls asleep. My DD on the other hand never does this.

Think it's just one of those things some children do, in my case it's definitely not been an indication of anything wrong.

It’s normal, they are very warm cuddled in with you. If it’s warm in general take the babygro off first.

Thank you all for the reassurance. Much appreciated. Il give the porridge oats a go- how bizarre! Xxx

Oh god, my DD was like this, she was born in a heatwave too, we both practically melted into each other!! She was born with a decent head of hair too which was permanently a sweaty clump Grin. She's still quite sweaty as a toddler tbh her feet are something to behold after a day at nursery in the summer...!

My DD was like this! She was born with a complete head of hair too and her hair was soaked after every breastfeed !

She's one now and a bit less sweaty but still is definitely damp after a feed.

DS2 was very sweaty and did have a heart condition. However - he also got very breathless and slept way too much. Check with your health visitor if you think something isn't right.
