Achy left boob after breastfeeding

I’m breastfeeding a 15 month old once a day

My left boob has become achy with a dull pain after feeding

It’s almost a bit like a mild bruising type pain

I fed her at 7am and it’s nearly noon and I can still feel it

Can this be normal?

Could it be a blockage op? How is it today?

P. S. Have you recently dropped any feeds?

It’s agony, last night I had full blown fever and aches.

Thought it was COVID, did a lateral flow which was negative and then put two and two together and realised I’ve got mastitis

I haven’t been feeding as much. It’s not a whole dropped feed as such but she’s getting more distracted and filling up on her food.

I woke her up last night to feed which was very painful but helped clear it a bit

It doesn’t feel blocked, swollen or red but still hurts

I have a phone call booked with a GP tomorrow

Poor you OP. Yes, my first thought was a blockage. Blockages often lead to mastitis. Try to get your baby to help clear it. Massage your breast towards your nipple whilst feeding or expressing. Lots of fluids and paracetamol. Warm compress on your breast. Change baby's position throughout the feeding so their chin is pointing in different directions. Also, try dangle feeding if you can. On all fours with baby lying under your breast, as crazy at that sounds.

Good that you've got a GP app. Mastitis doesn't always need antibiotics.. It is possible to clear it on your own. Having said that, if you have a fever, that sounds like infected mastitis, in which case antibiotics will probably be necessary.
