Sore nipple

Wondering if anyone can help.

I’ve been feeding my DS 17mths since birth and we’ve gradually reduced to one feed at bed time and sometimes before naps.

Last night when he latched on the right side it was so painful, like a shooting pain, and same this morning when I just tried it.

Any idea what it could be? I can’t feed off that side whilst it’s like this, he’s bitten me and he’s too old for it to be his latch, it all looks ok.

I had pain like that but it was a milk blister and I could see it

I’ll have more of a look!

You could have a blockage that's not visible from the surface maybe

Is it just when he latches on or constant now?

PippaRose · 21/08/2021 12:37

Just when he latches on.

Though it’s tender to touch

Sorry meant it’s constant when he’s on but just sore to touch when he’s not

I had thrush that was really painful and I couldn't see anything on the nipple/breast or in my ds mouth.
I've just got over a bout of mastitis which was super painful, with a red area and flu like symptoms (high temp etc.)
Ds also bit me. It looked like a paper cut at first but then the wound got bigger as he was feeding on it and got infected.
Could it be any of those?
I haven't had the best luck with breastfeeding! Hopefully you'll get sorted soon.

Yes was wondering about thrush, I’ll keep an eye on it, hopefully it gets better soon!

It’s so tough isn’t it!

You could try hot shower / bath, rubbing with a flannel and keep feeding from that side (as well as the other side) in case it is a blockage

Thanks I’ll try that too
