2 week unsettled baby

Hiya

My 2 week old today and last night has been so unsettled. Last night she was unsettled all night until she slept from 5am-7am. She's slept a total of around half an hour today since 9am and just generally fussing all day, bringing her legs up and being sick after feeds. (She is breastfed) I have tried all different ways of winding her and only got one burp out all day however she's had 3 dirty nappies.

Does it sound like she has reflux/ colic. I hate seeing her in what seems to be pain!

Thanks in advance xx

Could it be CMPA?

Greenmarmalade · 18/08/2021 16:47

Being sick or just spitting up milk?

Gemmaemilyx · 18/08/2021 16:49

@Greenmarmalade some is just spitting up milk but other times it's sick (I'm assuming It's sick anyway as it's thick) Around 50/50. It's not massive amounts each time but enough to have to change her

Xx

It sounds like a growth spurt and cluster feeding. At 2 weeks, babies do still tend to crunch their legs up. Bringing milk up is annoying and can be distressing to watch but very normal.

Hi @MabelTheCow
Thanks for your reply. I hope it's this! I can cope with that 😅 she is feeding every 1-2 hours so I think clusterfeeding for sure too!

I'd be wary of jumping to conclusions early on about cmpa etc as it's apparently very overdiagnosed www.bmj.com/content/363/bmj.k5056.full
Some babies are just very sicky (mine was) but otherwise completely fine. Just ensure she's gaining weight, producing plenty of nappies etc and if you continue to have concerns then speak to gp or health visitor x

I had a TERRIBLY colicky baby until 5ms old. He never slept more than 40mins at a time because he suffered from crampy abdominal pain, sudden screaming crying, pulling his knees up.

In that time we tried infacol, dentinox, gripe water, fennel tea, colief, colic massages (and had a nurse come to the house weekly to do it too), gavison, Ranitidine, crib tilt, bicycle legs, baths, car rides, warm compresses, pram walks, fancy swing, bouncer, sling, I was strictly CMP free for 4 months (that was awful).

In the end I'm pretty sure it was my over active let down causing the colic. Lying down breastfeeding helped - this video saved my sanity

My phone just deleted a long post!! Short version- look up la Leche league. Amazing resource. Great helpline.

First 2 months are so hard- take all the mini naps you can in the daytime.

1-2 hourly feeding v normal. One of my twins was fed every 1.5 hours for at least 4 months. My youngest also every couple of hours. But it gets easier after 2 months- the whole thing is much less intense, in my experience.

My 2 and a half week old has been exactly the same the past couple of days, I was thinking she was gassy or refluxy but on a whim I looked up likely behaviours when babies have growth spurts and it described my DD perfectly, apparently it usually only lasts 2-3 days so just keeping my fingers crossed that I've correctly 'diagnosed' her

Update for anyone in a similar situation.

My daughter does have CMPA and I've had to cut out cows milk for the last 3 months but she is rarely sick and never in pain now. Thanks for the person who mentioned it- I'd never have even knew what it was unless you suggested it 😃😃

(The main thing was mucousy poos and blood in them to confirm) xx
