Can this really be normal? Poo in almost every nappy, sometimes green!

Bf DS2 (4mths) has been pooing almost constantly for the past two weeks, sometimes it is green, most of the time it looks normal.

He also seems to be feeding less (although this could be my imagination - I always worry) and he has been a bit sicky too

He is perfectly happy otherwise and his weight is fine. I have taken him to see the doctor who suggested it could be related to my diet (which hasn't changed) or she said it could just be his bowels maturing.

Does anyone have experience of this?

Yup, but not at 4 months (much earlier in DS1 and 2). For me it was due to oversupply of milk, and I solved it by single sided feeding. DS3 has just started cluster feeding in the evenings, and whaddaya know, the green poo is back. Green poo in itself wasn't/isn't a particular problem AFAIK but if other ishoos - mine were windy, colicky, and the poo seemed very acidic (ie got nappy rash instantly) - maybe need to think about it?

But I have also heard on this list that some people believe green poo to be absolutely normal, a sign of underfeeding and also - when baby is poorly - something to be looked at. So that's not very conclusive! I really doubt it is what you're eating though and I think BF babies poo shouldn't really change dramatically and permanently until they're eating solids. So not sure about the GPs comments...

He is a very very windy baby - I think this could be the cause IYKWIM. He has always struggled to get rid of wind up until recently, maybe there is a link?

He is definitely not underfed - this week I had him weighed for the first time since the HV came round to see us and he is over the average, on a steady line since birth. He is a VERY chubby strong baby

Green poo happens when the baby gets a lot of foremilk and less hind milk. My daughter produced entirely green pool for about 3-4 months. Health visitor was worried, blah blah. I never worried. She grew at a perfectly normal rate and is a very health 7 year old now.

Mine pooed in every nappy when very small. It gradually tailed off becoming less and less frequent until we were down to one every three or four days. Trust me, you don't want that as an alternative. Nothing, and I mean nothing, will contain several days worth delivered in one load!

You see I think I preferred it when he was pooing every 3-4 days. I shall now boast that my washable nappies will keep almost everything contained

Cave - is that true about the foremilk giving green poo? Maybe it is when I have felt that he has been snacking that his poo has been green then, as most of the time it is normal.
