WhoUsedMyName · 13/08/2021 10:26

I thought I would have an ask on here but do I realise I maybe at the stage of needing to see a doc or dietician so please be kind.
Ds 8m since starting solids & also follow on milk has had diarrhoea every bm is the same watery a lot and up his back! (Sorry tmi)
I have cut out cheese & yogurt for 3 days so far and it's made no difference (maybe not long enough)? Could it be the follow on milk I have used the same brand as first milk.
Just wondering if anyone can help or am I missing somthing really obvious

Some babies babies do have lactose intolerance but it is quite rare.

It could be the follow in milk. Have you tried switching him back to first stage milk to see if that helps?

WhoUsedMyName · 13/08/2021 19:09

@BunnyRuddington thank you for replying I havnt no. I will try from Tomoz I think but is that going backwards should I still go on to cows at 12m?

It won't be lactose intolerance as lactose is the sugar in all milks including breastmilk. It will be in the infant formula too.

Switch back to 1st milk and see if it helps. You can play it by ear with cows milk once you get to 1 year

You don't have to use follow on milk. It's fine to use first milk until 12 months then cows milk.

I read on here that follow on milk was invented so that formula companies could advertise. (It's illegal for them to advertise first milk but they can advertise follow on milk)

My son is much older with lactose intolerance and tbh weaning helped as the amount of milk drunk was decreasing from then on.

@AllTheSingleLadiess yes very true I hadn't really thought it all through just started googling in the small hours.
Thank you

Lactose intolerance is incredibly rare in babies but it does happen.

Were you ff or bf prior to follow on milk? Follow on milk is not recommended as it’s much harder to digest and can cause tummy problems. I would move to first milk and then see what happens.

@Pissinthepottyplease Great name!
I was bf then ff weaning then just moved over to follow on but didn't do enough research so I have moved back to first formula today

Bm and fm have similar amounts of lactose. I would give it 2 weeks on the new milk and then see how it is going.
