anyone drink what? diet coke?

tiktok · 28/11/2007 17:02

Why would there be a problem with it, Shell?

3madboys · 28/11/2007 17:12

um i actually found that my youngest one reacted when i drank diet coke, i think its the phenenyline in it? or at least thats what i discovered, it made him restless and fidgety, esp at night time.

took me a while to see the link, in fact i think it was dp that pointed it out to me.

Trimum2 · 28/11/2007 20:23

Oh god, no. Its the one evil thing I have left.

I drink gallons of the stuff.

No life, no alcohol, please don't take the last thing I have left away... (well that and chocolate )

Shell001 · 28/11/2007 20:52

Diet coke yes .. just i thought it may make them restless and that because of the ingredients .. i know i love a nice cold diet coke but i think it does have some effect as only started drinking it last few weeks as normally stick to water but fancied change. But mw did mention carbonated drinks can be a problem.

I better not tell you the ratio of my diet coke : water then...

How immediate do you think the impact would be if I stopped / cut down?

theUrbanDryad · 28/11/2007 21:57

i've heard that the aspartame can be a problem, but it's just hearsay, and i personally doubt there's much truth in it. but if you're worried, drink normal coke! (i do!!)

Er, yep, and whilst pregnant (much to my mothers horror) My argument was that I had given up everything else, and had gone off chocolate. I didn't notice any adverse effects when breast feeding.

Shell001 · 28/11/2007 23:15

I know i gave it up for 9 months also .. maybe the one can a day for me well have to wait !

lazycat · 29/11/2007 12:34

I used to drnk loads of diet coke. When i gave it up, my skin really improved, my teeth stopped getting stained and I felt much better. Now convinced it's evil, so dependent on tea instead...

cave · 29/11/2007 23:17

Diet coke has aspartame in it. Aspartame breaks down in your body to formaldehye, a strong preservative. There are links to headaches and at worst kidney cancer. Aspartame is a nasty chemical. Trust me, I have a science degree and have studied this product. I would really recommend not drinking sugar free drinks because it will pass into your baby. It is also preferable not to give children diet drinks, but well diluted fruit juice or normal cordials. Sugar is at least something our bodies recognize and metabolize in a normal way.

Very expensive. Puts smokings cigs in the shade I'm sure. I know I need to kick it, but am really struggling. Managed to pretty much stay off it during pregnancy but seem to be making up for lost time now. I am just so tired from DS being up so much during the night that it feels like I need this to function.

I don't like tea or coffee so this is my only source of caffeine, but all the other nasties that are in there are really scary. Wished I liked coffee and could swap it.
