Infant Gaviscon

Hi - can anyone answer this? DD is over 10lb so can have 2 sachets of infant Gaviscon instead of 1, so effectively double the amount. However, the leaflet says "do not give more than 6 times in 24 hours" & the website says "do not give more than 6 sachets in 24 hours." It's also unclear how to prepare if you're using two sachets, as the leaflet says to mix ONE sachet in 4fl oz formula but then also says that babies over 10lb can use 2... So confusing... Can anyone advise? Also, if a baby over 10lb can have double the amount (ie 12 sachets in a 24 hr period) can you give one sachet only but do so for every feed, if your baby feeds more often than six times? I asked the GP and she said no, we can't do that, it's either 6 sachets 6 times a day or 12 sachets 6 times a day, but you can't deviate from 6 times. When I asked why, she just referred to the prescription guidelines and sounded a bit shirty but I just want to understand why we can't give her a sachet with each feed (she tends to feed around 8-10 times per 24 hrs so that would still be less than the maximum allowed dose of 12). Can anyone advise?

No idea on this one sorry but my DSIL had some success with Dentinox. Could you add that to all of the bottles and see how you get on? That way you could stick to the Gaviscon at 6 doses per day.

How are you getting on now @Santatizer?

Hi @BunnyRuddington thanks for asking! I looked up the Dentinox drops but I'm not sure they are for reflux - thank you for suggesting though & I'll keep them in mind. DD is definitely more settled on the whole so fingers massively crossed that it continues. Early evenings are still tricky ...

This is the BNF with regards to gaviscon. Hopefully it makes it clearer for you.
