Ebf periods returned

Currently bf a 5 month old. He went through the four month sleep regression, sleep improved a bit for a week or two and then when fairly crappy again. He’s also been poorly with Covid. So we have been feeding regularly at night, co-sleeping more including for naps during the day. He’s not fed as much yesterday in the heat. Anyway, to cut a long story short I was surprised given the circumstances that my period started during the night. Have been awake worrying about affect on my supply. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you x

Only advice is don't worry, your period will absolutely not effect your supply. Just keep feeding responsively to your baby and you'll be fine! Congrats on still bf at 5 months!!
Mine came back at 5 months I think, can't remember now, and I'm still bf my 13m old 2-3 times a day! X

Totally normal. I've got a DF who fed four and the longest she went without AF was 6 weeks I think.

Absolutely don't worry, that's more likely to affect your supply than your AF Smile

Thanks guys, reassurance is really appreciated. Been a grim couple of weeks in terms of lack of sleep and LO being poorly for the first time. Could have done without this! X

With both my kids, period returned to normal exactly 28 days after birth and continued as if nothing had ever happened. My supply with first wasn't great but managed to breastfeed without any formula until he was 2.5 years. Second one we are at 8 months. Ok supply and no formula supplementation. So it can be ok. Am sure you will be ok

My period came back at 11 weeks and dd was still feeding at least 2 hourly day and night. I felt robbed. I bfed for over 3 years. It was fine, though I got blocked ducts every time I ovulated. I don't think that's common though and I never knew why.

Mine came back 4 weeks after I stopped postpartum bleeding and went straight back into a regular cycle.
I breastfed both children for 14 months.

It varies hugely as to when your period returns. Have a look here www.llli.org/breastfeeding-info/menstruation/ for some useful LLL info.

I wonder if Covid (if you had it too when your baby did) is also what may have affected your period? There have been quite a few anecdotal stories of it messing up cycles temporarily.

Periods all returned by 6 months pp here, despite ebf.

How we ended up with three under three.

It's very common and it's stinks!

Muriel84 · 19/07/2021 10:16

@Tickly that’s interesting I hadn’t thought of that. I haven’t had Covid yet. I’ve been double vax. Had three PCR tests all negative. I had the second vaccine two weeks ago I wonder if it’s that.

@Notashandyta oh gosh three under three! Hats off to you. I’m a ftm still getting my head around one under one! X

@Muriel84 yes could be. There's a fair bit of anecdotal stuff out there. I had to get a breast review because of a lump and the sonographer said they'd had a significant increase in referrals post shot - all benign just a glandular reaction but of course women check themselves and sensibly go for a review. Ps am v pro vaccination in case anyone reads that the wrong way!!
