BF baby not pooing

My ds2 (almost 5 months old) has suddenly changed from pooing everyday to not having been for at least 2-3 days. I know all babies are different, but should I worry that he has suddenly stopped?

Normal. I think the longest one of mine ever went without pooing was 6 days. When he does finally go, the size of the poo will be directly proportion to the time elapsed since the last one, so you may need to hose down the bathroom after changing him.

dd used to poo every 2-3 days at 5 months. I took it to be a sign that her digestive system was working better (and digesting more). I could have been wrong of course, but she certainly suffered no ill effects. If your ds isn't in pain when he does poo, you've got nothing to worry about. If he is, try giving him water, or a tiny amount of well-diluted fruit juice.

I used to get really uptight as my dd wouldn't poo for sometimes up to a week! It would be the first topic of conversation with my mother on the phone - "has she pooed yet?". Once she had a more varied diet of solids she became a lot more regular. It is probably a sign that your breast milk is giving her exactly what she needs. If you think she is straining or uncomfortable a small pipette of OJ gets it moving.

Thanks - I am probably worrying over nothing as he seems fine in himself

On a side note though - I am suprised by the advice to give orange juice to a young baby. I thought citrus was a possible allergy trigger.

Dont think you're meant to give oj. Too strong for their tummies.

Ilanak - didn't mean orange juice, I said fruit juice. It was something somebody told me when I was worried about dd's pooing habits. She did have well-diluted peach juice anyway at about 6 months though.

It's normal and I personnally would not give any sort of juice, diluted or not as it tends to lead to babies ken on juice and not water....

Thanks everyone. HE finally went this morning and it was everywhere! We actually had to put him in the bath and throw away the vest he was wearing! And I might add that we use cloth nappies which are usually bomb proof!
