New Cow and Gate 2021

Hi,

We have recently bought a tub of the updated Cow and Gate Formula that has just been released. I looked online and the ingredients etc have changed and the box has a new look.

Since we changed this week, my little one who is nearly 6 weeks has been struggling. He has been very windy and upset, quite sicky, tensing, groaning and grunting and generally just very unsettled.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’m wondering if it is down to the change in formula or if it could be the beginning of colic. I’m wondering how long it may be likely to last if it is the formula change.

Thank you.

There's one way to find out if it is the new formula, well actually two Smile

First one is to see if you can get hold of a carton of the old stuff and try him with that.

The other one is to switch brands completely away from Cow & Gate.

How are things today @mummy1202?

My son is having trouble with this change too! He has stopped being sick as much but is just so grouchy all the time. He's 4 months old so I didn't think he'd get colic this late as he's usually such a happy little boy :(
Currently waiting for a call back from the GP as he's only had one poo in the last 2 weeks!! Hoping it isn't the milk that's upset him but may look at changing if he doesn't get any better once his bowels are back to normal. Health visitor recommended putting him on the C&G colic and constipation milk but it has palm oil in it and I think the fact they've taken it out has helped his sickness 🤷
Going to see what the doctors say and go from there. Never been so desperate to see baby poo in my life!!

Hi OP, how is your son doing now? Has he settled?
My son is also nearly 6 weeks and having similar problems. I have just switched his formula from Hipp Organic to Cow and Gate as the Hipp seemed to be making him uncomfortable with trapped wind. He’s been on cow and gate for 4 days now and has been even worse than he was before, i can’t even lay him down once he’s asleep he will just start squirming and wake up screaming straight away.

I put this down to the change in formula and assumed its his tummy getting used to the new formula. He’s now got dhiarrea which i also thought must be due to the formula change. I had no idea about the change in ingredients so i said i would give it another week before deciding whether to change back to Hipp.

Does anyone know what the change in ingredients is? It’s a shame they would change it in the first place knowing the hassle it would cause newborns who are already trying to get used to their digest system in the first place.

Hi, did post about this on another similar thread but had the same issue with the updated C and G formula with my 3 month old DS. His poos were so runny and almost a green colour. So we made the decision to go back to the old version of the formula and thank God no more runny poos so far. Its still available in supermarkets and you can get it from the C and G shop online.

Have had this exact same issue op! My son was having the same exact issues.
I have now placed him on SMA today just had his first bottle of it, for the first time in about a week he has drank the bottle calmly, been settled after it and gone to sleep. Not cried.
Extremely early to tell but so far so good.
Loads of people have been having this issue.

Just wanted to add my twopence worth to this feed. My ds is 13 weeks and has been ill ever since I gave him a bottle of the new C&G formula 3 weeks ago. At his 3 month check up the practice health nurse advised me to take him to the gp. I’ve now had to put him through a covid test (negative) and am waiting for the results of a stool sample. My gp has said she’s 99% sure it’s the formula causing his diarrhoea but she has to be sure, hence all the tests. Personally, I feel like this has been brought in through the back door and am pretty annoyed with C&G. I live in Dublin where the shelves were suddenly empty of C&G and all I could find out was that there had been an issue with a foaming ingredient. Now all the formulas have been changed which I only discovered because I noticed the colour and texture of the instant bottles were different. I had to dig around on C&G’s FAQs page to find out any info. I’m most likely going to switch him to Hipp Organic and hope for the best at this stage. Very disappointing communication from them. IMO, anything that causes such widespread abs lengthy wind/vomiting/discomfort/diarrhoea in babies should be steered well clear of.
