well my efforst to move to full time bf seem to not be going well. i seem to have developed a pain in left breast. man it hurst and is particularly sore during and just after a feed. i have continued to feed with the other one.

still no where need getting it established full time but i do want to keep trying but the pain is more than a bit off putting.

i got a hand pump (sorry to scared of electric ones!) and can see that some milk comes out so that is good news.

DH and I shall be on holiday for a month from next week so that will give me more time but I REALLY WANT THE PAIN TO GO AWAY!!!

sorry for shouting its sore.

what to do?

The good news is that the gel will clear it quickly from his mouth so he shouldn't keep fussing for long.

I found the acidophilus cured me when I had in (in conjunction with all the other stuff) so hopefully it will work as quickly for you as it did for me.

Thank you for posting about this, I had the same pain when I was breast feeding DS, he had thrush in his mouth and when I asked my DR he told me that there was no way it could have been passed to me, (crap DR) I knew the pain wasn't normal. At least I'll know for next time.

Moo, order some Exspore tablets online - they are the biz. Also if you use a pump/bottle/dummy you must sterilize using Milton as even boiling will not kill the bastard!!!

Citricidal is great for adding to your wash when wahing your bra or cloth nappies. Both of these products contain Extract of Grapefruit Seed which is the only thing that got rid of my thrush.

BTW, sadly it is common for GPs to deny thrush can get in the ducts - I had to import Fluconazole from Cambodia via my sis and even then it didn't work!!

I kept getting reinfected from my pump which I used when it got sore....vicious circle.

Good luck - it will go eventually and you'll be able to enjoy pain free bfing for many months.

moocowme, I'm suffereing along with you this weekend. Your pains sound just like mine.

I've taken an over the counter fluconazole tablet to tide me over till I get to the GP on Monday, but I'm not looking forward to it, as I had ABs for mastitis recently and when I said I was worried about thrush (in my breasts) as I had already had it after ABs for an infected C-section wound, he gave me a prescription. When i had it filled, he'd given me a vaginal pessary ......

i had to fight for the right dose of fluconazole the first time around as well. This time I'm going in armed with the Breastfeeding Network's leaflet (which someone linked earlier) and the name of a breast thrush friendly GP at our practice.

Also first time round I had no nipple symptoms, and DD didn't have anything in her mouth, but this time she has a nasty nappy rash, I have it in my throat and my nipple is very itchy and raw. It also gets increasingly itchy as she feeds...like itchy pins and needles, iyswim.

Hope you feel better soon x

I hope you feel better soon.

moocowme · 24/11/2007 21:37

you have it in your throat? hmm i have had a very sore throat for the last 5 days and can't seem to get it to go away.

giving birth was easier than this!!

my GP's spouse has just given birth to twins two weeks after i had DS so he seems to be up with a lot of these problems.

shall steralize everything with tablets now.

moocowme, how are you oday?

I took a 150mg fluconazole last night and another today and things are already feeling easier.

Will get the 50mg tabs I need to take for 10 days from GP tomorrow, as there is no way I'm shelling out £5 a day for the next ten days

I'll be taking the BfN leaflet with me though as ammunition.

Hi DN

shooting pain again this morning for our bf session but not nearly as painful as yesterday. only managed one bf today and this is not enough but could not cope with more pain. DS got a mouthful of nystatin this morning curtesy of my nipples and seems ok from this. It did not put him of a nice long session in bed with me.

i have smeared nystatin cream on some breast pads and worn it all day. actually got no pain at the moment which is a good sign. steralased everything with tablets, got some probiotic yogurt.

I have kept up with the fluconazole. went to Boots today for one and it was £10! and that was the boots home brand one.

I think I shall be ssing my GP in the morning as the price is a bit steep.

I just hope that I have some breast milk left at the end of this as i desperately want to continue bf.

hi moocowme, hope you got sorted at the GP. Mine sorted me out over the phone so I just need the prescription.

Once you are pain free I suggest you just feed and feed and feed to get your supply going again, and there are various things you can take (galactogogues) like fenugreek and oats which help boost supply.

Lots of advice and info on Kellymom

DaisyNightingale · 26/11/2007 12:32

oops that should have said just need to pick up the prescription

moocowme · 26/11/2007 12:52

saw another doctor this morning. got some more canestan tablets (lower dose than you get of single over the counter)

its feeling a lot better now. just a small ache this morning but rhen we could not stay in bed together as we had to be down at the surgery at 8am to get an appointment

doc said to just take the tablets and stop the nystatin cream. think i might as its getting better now.

have also steralised everything in water with tablets as suggested.

just need to feed feed feed now. flying home to Australia on Sunday so that should help as well.

Great news moocowme

laundrylover · 27/11/2007 10:21

Moo,

That all sounds good.

Hope you can get bfeeding lots again and get your supply back up.....did you get any Exspore (or similar supplement?) tablets? Would still be worth it IMO to stop it re-occurring.

Good luck with the flight and have a great holiday - pop onto MN when you get chance and I'll keep and eye out for you.
