Vitamin drops for BF babies?

I have avoided hvs with my second child but went to an 8 months check (for the free books! and to see quite how porky my baby was) and she went on about it was government advice that mothers who bf after 6 months need to give vitamins a c and d. I vaugely remember something about this and iron the first time round. If they are eating well is it necessary? I looked in my chemists and the abidec ones had peanut oil in them.

I'm not an expert, but haven't given vitamin drops to my fully-bf DS (now 16 months). He was eating fairly well and v healthy, the odd cold but nothing else. My HV didn't even mention vit drops... (but I have only seen her twice). She did mutter something about cutting back on the bf at his 9 month check "because of iron"

Hi

Told this as well something about increased possibility of rickets etc. Havent really looked into all the details/evidence but was going to try the drops anyway until found out about the peanut oil. Have since though been told by someone with a medical husband who has peanut allergies in his family that the oil is purified and has no proteins that cause the allergies.....Still bit dubious so prob going to go for the Dalavit ones that dont have peanut oil. Have to buy them from pharmacy not on shelf.

just thought i would add that my bf ds3 wasn't taking to solids very well and we were given vit. drops around 15 months. he developed eczema around tje back of the knees which took hold over a couple of weeks - because he had such a limited diet i managed to track it down to the drops and to my horror they had peanut oil in! i phoned the nutritionist and she said a reaction was incredibly rare as the peanut oil is so refined????
a year later and he still gets flare ups
i wouldn't touch abidec, but i have found a company called 'nature's plus' and all ingredients are natural - for 2 years and up though.
