Biting

DD is 7 months, was exclusively breastfed, since 6 months has had some solids (both purees and finger food) and water to sip as well as continuing breastfeeding.

She's started biting me in the last couple of days. Not sure why, there's no obvious signs of teeth coming through but of course it could be teeth and they're not through yet, or it could be something else.

Obviously I would like not to be bitten - any good hints or tips on how to stop her doing it?!

I'd unlatch her immediately, say 'no' or 'ow' quite loudly and put her down.

Thanks for the suggestion. Gave it a go earlier and felt awful because she burst into tears when I put her down! But it's probably the right thing to do Sad.

(I did pick her up again and comfort her - interestingly she wasn't interested in feeding when I picked her up so I wonder whether she's doing it because she's coming to the end of a feed and getting bored.)

Second the advice above. Immediately unlatch her and say firmly ‘no biting’ or whatever. Consistently every time. Also, really focus on making sure she latches properly then biting should be harder for her to do.

Unlatch (gentle little finger in her mouth until she lets go) and a firm No and put her down for a while.

If she won't stop biting you can also gently hold those nose closed which will cause them to stop biting to take a breath.

Sympathies - DD went through a phase of this and it was really horrible. I just kept repeating the above and after a week or so she just stopped and never bit me again.

My DS is almost 4 months and I was apprehensive of this biting phase! My poor nipples, I was thinking of just expressing and using a bottle, but I'll definitely try this beforehand!
