Bottles in caravan

Hi everyone apparently the tap water in caravans isn't so clean so if I wanted to make babys bottle would it be okay if boiled? Also I give him water with meals so I assume I'd have to boil it first then give it to him cooled? I heard you aren't supposed to use bottled water. TIA

You can use bottled as long as it has a low sodium level. You still need to boil it when making up formula

  • bottled water may contain too much salt (sodium) or sulphate. If using bottled water to make up a feed, check the label to make sure the sodium (also written as Na) level is less than 200 milligrams (mg) per litre, and the sulphate (also written as SO or SO4) content is not higher than 250mg per litre
-bottled water is not usually sterile. It must be boiled before preparing the feed. Do not re-boil bottled water as this may concentrate sodium and sulphate levels.

Okay thanks but can I use the water from the caravan?

Is this a static caravan? If the water is drinking quality it is fine. If you are concerned boil it.

hdfdss · 21/06/2021 08:47

Thanks for your reply yes it is a static. I was wondering if the water would be okay to use as long as it's boiled. DP was a bit iffy about it but if it's boiled I don't see how it would be unsafe.

It's for baby formula.

I thought you were supposed to boil before making a bottle anyway?

hdfdss · 21/06/2021 08:54

Yes but tap water is usually clean as it is I mean because caravan water can be dirty.

As long as the water is clean it's fine to boil then use once cooled.

If you're at all unsure about the water why are you going?

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/06/2021 09:00

Water in a static caravan usually comes off the mains and is as good as water anywhere else.

roobicoobi · 21/06/2021 09:02

The water will not be dirty. It is drinking water.

roobicoobi · 21/06/2021 09:03

Oh, unless the static is in a random field somewhere? We are just assuming it's on a site.

hdfdss · 21/06/2021 09:09

Thanks everyone Yes its a holiday parj

If its on the mains the water will be fine to use
If its not you should use bottled

hdfdss · 21/06/2021 09:20

Okay thanks what bottled water have you used?

dementedpixie · 21/06/2021 09:24

I put the info above about the sodium and sulphate levels you should look out for.

LIZS · 21/06/2021 14:09

Or you could buy readymade for the duration .

Mrsjayy · 21/06/2021 14:13

the water is definitely drinkable im a static van its from a mains source but they would tell you if it wasn't but if you are concerned boil it and let it cool. Or take a few gallon from home Grin.

Mrsjayy · 21/06/2021 14:14

oh yeah buy ready made saves any angst and confusion about sodium etc.

mumwon · 21/06/2021 14:19

I would second buying ready made if in doubt

Mrsjayy · 21/06/2021 14:21

Just curious is it now ok to use water straight from the Tap, when I was making formula we were always told to boil and cool.how times have changed Smile

dementedpixie · 21/06/2021 14:23

No it needs boiled for making formula and should be 70⁰C to kill any bacteria in the formula. From 6 months you can give tap water as a drink.

Mrsjayy · 21/06/2021 14:25

right so I'm not as out of touch as I thought.

carolinesbaby · 21/06/2021 15:30

I never drink water that has been through the water system in my touring caravan. I would buy bottled water for the baby and use that, but it should be fine if you boil if.
