9mo bites hard when I try to bf

Help please! My ebf 9mo has started to bite down hard when I try to feed him. He has 6 teeth so it really hurts. I try a couple of times on both sides but then have to give up and try again later.

He's doing it mostly in the afternoon and evening so I'm managing to get him to bf about half to 3/4 of the time. He shows signs of wanting to feed and opens mouth nice and wide to take the breast but then bites pretty much straight away.

He took some pumped milk in a cup (rejected the bottle), and then ate loads of his solid food. Is this him starting to wean off bf or just a phase? Don't know how long I can keep putting my nipples in the line of fire! Also worried I will get an injury. Has anyone experienced this? What did you do?

When either of mine bit they got a sharp ‘ow’ and put straight down. They cried obviously and I might then try again a bit later.
It was mainly a phase and they stopped.
How badly do you want to continue bf?

Oh god this is terrifying! I remember googling ‘can a baby bite off a nipple’ at some stage Shock

Mine both seemed to get a bit bitey when they had just cut new teeth, it was like they weren’t too sure how to use them in their mouths initially, it soon passed.

When a bite happened, I would say firmly no biting mummy and stop the feed for a while. I did have injuries from bites but more often from blocked ducts that lead to milk blisters on the nipple. Bathed them in salt water and used lansinoh. But hopefully you will avoid that…

DC1 bit really hard around the same age and I in the end I gave up - neither of us were enjoying it and it usually ended in one or both of us crying. I can’t say I missed it and he didn’t appear to either, there were too many other exciting things for him to gnaw on.
