CMPA? Reflux? Just a grumpy baby?

Almost 6 week old DS, 3rd baby. He is so grumpy. Always grizzling/crying, fights sleep. I don't know if it's just his personality or there is something else going on. He has a tongue tie but it doesn't seem to affect his feeding.

He is formula fed. Often poos when feeding, and they're always runny and wet. He seems to get snuffly and coughs after feeding, sneezes a lot. He is hard to wind, is sick if you lay him down too soon after a feed.

My niece had cmpa and still has soya allergies as a toddler, I don't know if it makes it more likely DS might? I have a phone call with health visitor on Wednesday but just looking for other people's experiences in the meantime.

Hi OP, I on have experience of silent reflux and I'm sure someone will be along to tell you about CMPA etc. Reflux makes a baby completely inconsolable and uncomfortable for most of the day, arching their back and screaming. What you've said about his poo being runny it could indicate more towards and intolerance of some sort so if phone the GP too and ask about that. With the winding, it would sometime take me well over 45 mins to get a burp up and we wouldn't ever put her down before as she'd be sick too, it could also be the types of bottles your using or the level of flow. We used a tommee tippee bottle and didn't realise for ages that the little plastic stick up bit on the teat needed to be upright so the bottle could release air whilst baby was feeding which helped quite a bit with wind for us!

I'd get the tt divided and see how he is after that, it's probably affecting him much more than you think.

Definitely sounds like reflux.

And reflux is usually a symptom of something else like CMPA

Just to add to my last post, I'd have a read of this article from Milk Matters as it talks about tt and a FF baby. Do the symptoms sound similar?

The MW/HV all said his tongue tie wasn't a concern as I wasn't breastfeeding and he can stick his tongue out, it would just mean he was a messy eater. Would I get it snipped privately?

We're using the mam self sterilising bottles, I think they're anti colic. I did think it was reflux, we tried dentinox colic drops but didn't seem to make a difference. He is just so different from my first 2, he is never content longer then 5 mins before he is crying, even when being held he has to be patted/jiggled etc or he cries. We never get to do tummy time as he is either being winded, sat up after a bottle or over tired, sleeping and then the cycle begins, which is what made me think it was reflux.

The runny poo/coughing and stuffy nose are what is making me wonder about cmpa.

Thanks for your replies

Well, that could be CMPA. Perhaps both things are troubling him, poor little mite Thanks
