Am I over feeding my baby!

Am I over feeding my 2 month old, he has 6.5oz 180ml (thickened formula) every 4 hours. Everywhere says he should be having up to 5oz for his age?

Why thickened?

lotstolose1 · 13/06/2021 21:24

My boys 11 months and has 6oz bottles, obviously we're having food now too but he's been having 6oz from 5mo

On thickened milk for silent reflux and being sick .

At that age we were on 7oz every 3-4 hours. Baby needs what baby needs, you can't over feed unless you're actively forcing them to take more after they refuse the bottle or show turn away. You're doing great, try not to worry.

Forgot to add: The up to 5oz thing is an average and for that to be average some babies have to take more and some have to take less. It's really just a guide at that age Smile

Thank you! I'm a first time mum and terrified of over feeding but he has it all, doesn't dribble and enjoys every drop.

A health visitor told me that you can't overfeed, they'll just bring it back up if they have drank too much. Sounds like you're doing a fine jobFlowers

Ah okay! Sorry didn't realise that's what it was called Grin

As PP said I'm sure it's fine, it's just average. My boy has slightly less than others and he is a slightly smaller baby that others, but still growing great according to health visitor.

If you are really worried you could ask HV for a weight appointment? But as long as you notice she's gaining weight nicely then no need x

IMO you can't over feed a baby. If they are taking it, then they're hungry. I just upped whenever DS needed it.

I'd be more concerned if you gave less and they were crying for more.
