Formula fed struggling to pass wind and poos

My son is 5 weeks old and from 2 weeks old he started to really grunt and moan generally after feeding. He doesnt cry to much just sometimes when he feeds he looks like he is trying to squeeze out a poo but doesnt. He struggles to get burps out so started using infacol which didnt make much difference. So trying colief past 2 days and he has gone from doing 1 poo a day to poo after each feed which he ends up getting a sore bum. Has anyone else had this experience? He doesnt seem to be grunting and moaning as much but does get distressed still when trying to get the poo/wind out. He uses aptamil and MAM anticolic bottles. Im not sure if its just his body getting used to everything or should I stop using colief and maybe just change formula?

I'd change formula, they're all regulated so have to have the same nutritional standards but are made from different ingredients so a different one might suit him more. Lots of posters in here seem to have problems with Aptamil and lots seem to recommend Aldi's and Hipp Organic.

Have you tried Metanium for his bum? It's magic stuff Smile

My experience is from 16 years ago but dd had this with SMA formula and I was told SMA was renowned for it. Might have been SMA gold. We switched to a Cow and Gate one. I've forgotten the name of it but I think it was supposed to be better for digestion and it solved the problem. Sorry not much help as maybe those formulas don't exist any more Grin

Was this one that fixed it

Thanks for the replies. I might try changing formula then. Ive heard about hipp organic being good.

I know it wont be same but my eldest daughter had a severe reaction to Metanium nappy cream where it burnt through her skin so darn't use it on my son.

I think wind is just painful/uncomfortable for new borns (even for adults sometimes). If is only moaning a couple of seconds before he passes wind I'd stick with what your using, if he seems really distressed or in a lot of pain I'd think of changing formula.

With his nappy rash, use whatever cream you use for every change of nappy. Then when it's better use once in the morning and once at night to keep it at bay

Fwiw I used every potion, powder and drops when mine were little and tbh I think they just got bigger and better at bringing up wind rather than anything else, although that's no comfort when you're in the new born trenches. All the best

Honestly, hipp made my baby worse! We also tried probiotics, again, worse!

I've decided it's a case of sticking it out and distracting him when he's struggling.

My 2 month old is using aldi brand formula Mamia which she has been since 2 weeks after birth. Just recently she isn’t passing wind at all during feeds or after feeds which is giving her severe pain and can’t enjoy a bottle at all. In the past I’ve tried infacol, gripe water etc which helped then stopped working, I then stopped giving her any medicine to help and she passed wind amazingly by herself. Now she is not passing wind at all which is hard to watch her in pain while trying everything possible to try bring it up. I use tommee tippee anti colic bottles (also tried MAM bottles but didn’t like them). I’ve tried trying different flow teats and still nothing!!
