Sudden very smelly poos

I'm concerned about this and I wondered if any other mums might be able to help

I exclusively breastfeed my baby (no bottles) the last three times she has pooped they have absolutely stank. They look fairly normal, possibly a little darker.

Usually her poo just kind of smells like sweet milk

Do you have any idea what this could be? Should I be concerned?

She is 16 weeks and happy in herself, but she has been sleeping very poorly the last week, she has been up frequently in the night

Please help, I posted on a breastfeeding fb page and nobody gave me an answer, I asked a nurse whilst I was at the GP no help whatsoever, I've been on google and can't see anything.

Teething?

@fallingsnowflakes

Teething?
Does teething make poos smell? I have never heard that before. I think she has been tbh although I'm a ftm so it's all guess work

It's how I always know mine is about to cut a tooth, poos are really foul acidy smelling + gets nappy rash. Would also explain nighttime wakings. I think it's due to them producing and swallowing lots of saliva.

teething?

mine had horrid, acrid poops. they were so acidic the skin would get damaged & bleeding - their butt looked like they sat on a hedgehog basically.
if it gets like that just cover skin with tons of Vaseline.

if you think it might be something else get medical help

If it’s not teething it could be something you ate. Mine reacted to brie and cauliflower. But if it smells like vinegar then probably teething.

you are welcome. it's hard first time round!

babies tend to dribble more in the day, some will want to constantly chew on things or on their fists.
you can get teething rings, the ones you put in the fridge then give them cold are very soothing for sore gums.
or a muslin soaked in cold water & wrung out will do, nice & low tech

at night use Dentinox or Calgel or Bonjela on gums followed by a shot of Calpol if needed.
my oldest used to be hysterical, he'd arch his back and wriggle I almost dropped him a few times - so beware, holding them to soothe might not be an option! I had to put him on the floor while he was writhing with pain until the meds worked and just stroked his leg.

if the screaming gets too much use earplugs. it's a great trick to keep you less stressed

it might not be.

but forewarned is forearmed!
prepare for the worst, hope for the best😉

Ugh yes, the stink of acid teething poos. It's foul! Their saliva becomes much more acidic when teething, hence the smell and sore bottoms.

Both of mine had it. Their poo also went khaki coloured (vom).

I am so glad I will never have to deal with teething again. Top tip I found Nurofen way better to deal with teething pain than Calpol and also lidocaine based teething gels. The ones without are useless!
