I went out at the weekend and had a drink. So I pumped for 48 hours until my milk supply was clear. But my supply seems to have really dropped I can't seem to pump more than about 2oz! My LO has fed this morning but only really quickly and seemed to looking at me as what's on nothings there ?
Any advice? He is on two feeds a day and I am at work 3 days a week so don't know how to get my supply back up.

you don't really need to pump till your milk supply is clear. if you are sober, your milk is sober. you do not say for how long you have been bf but if it is more than a few weeks, you milk supply should be fine.

i suppose if you go out for another drink again, you only need to express to ease any engorgement rather than 'pump and dump'.

Someone else may come along and correct me, though.

I have been b/f for nearly 11 months and would really like to continue for as long as he wants as he's my last baby. Thanks for the info about booze and milk - I guess I was being over cautious.

Any ideas if 2oz is a normal amount to be producing?

2oz is normal, so is nothing. so is 4, 6...

it depends on the pump you are using, it depends on how often you pump.

is there a reason why you want to express?

Concur with spaceman about the pointlessness of pumping and dumping - and for 48 hours?!?! The alcohol (such as it is....very small amounts) stays in your milk only as long as it stays in your blood, about 1.5 hours per unit.

Once you are free of the effects of alcohol, your milk is free, too.

Most long-established breastfeeders get less out with the pump at any one time - and in any case 2 oz is perfectly respectable.

Just feed your baby and you will be back to normal.

That's how it works

And forget about pumping next time!
