periods and bf - help!

My LO is coming up to 6 weeks old and i think i've got my first period today. Just panicking that the hormones involved might affect my supply. The midwife told me at my 10 day check that my periods wouldn't come back if I was breastfeeding.

Anyone have any experience of this to stop me panicking?!

Mine came back when bf, when LO was 6 months and I introduced solids. Still fed for another 7 months, with periods each month so don't worry.

My periods came back when DD1 was eight weeks old even though I was exclusively bfing every 2 or 3 hours day and night. The hormones certainly didn't effect my supply!

Periods can come back (as you've jsut discovered!), so don't worry - bit of a shame for you they came back so quickly though! Maybe it'll be a one off, mine were really ireegular for a good few months. HTH!

Hi Ziggy I had exactly the same thing, a period at 6 weeks - but the next one after that wasn't until DS was around 10 months and it took a good 7-8 months after that before they were regular.

I think I read somewhere though that any bleeding up to 56 days after birth didn't count as a period, but as I can't remember where I read it no idea if it's true or not!

Mine came back after 10 weeks, (such a pain in the backside!) and regularly every month...didn't affect my supply though...still BF 7 months on

Don't worry, mine came back at six weeks but it was just because I was overdoing it. They then buggered off for another NINE MONTHS (hurrah). Sadly they are back now (DD is one and still nursing).

Oh and I started ovulating at five months (four months or so before my periods showed up) so watch it!

mw wrong , sorry. Supply should be fine though. btw you would have ovulated 2 weeks ago so get contraception in hand again now , just in case you suddenly feel frisky

hee hee can't imagine ever feeling frisky again at the moment but thanks for the warning! Will get it sorted at my 6 week check tomorrow.

Mine came back after about 8 weeks and were regular regardless of the fact that I exclusively bf for 5 mths and continued bf for 13mths day and night!

Hi whomovedmychocolate, can I ask how you knew you were ovulating?!
